Live recording in Paris Jan. 1977, this edition is a representative sampling of
Wyschnegradsky's entire oeuvre, chosen by the composer himself shortly before his death. It reaches from the 'etude sur le carré magique sonore', opus 40 (1956) to numerous quarter tone pieces from the thirties and also from later years., to 'préludes et études' opus 48 (1966) for the third tone piano built by his friend Julian Carillo. Side 4 is a fascinating interview with the composer (paris 1977) in which he explains the 'etude sur les mouvment rotatoires' and quotes Wagner's 'Tristan and Isolde' at the piano as a confession of faith in the power of music to transform. An essential lp for fans of 20th century new music. Gate fold sleeve with extensive notes. RARE
